Minimee and I had a great Father’s Day. We went to see The Incredible Hulk, which we enjoyed immensely. That movie is one hell of a ride. Then we went to what is currently our favorite spot Parkside Restaurant and had the most enlightening conversation. I ordered my usual twin deluxe burgers with American and he, much to my surprise, ordered a grilled chicken caesar salad.
Going back to my post Chawlk. I decided that just going at him and being too direct might overwhelm him and I didn’t want to come across as too much of an authority figure.
I think it’s OK not to have all of the answers. I realize that that’s an opportunity for us to do something else together, we can look up what we don’t know and discuss what will likely be our our very different understanding of the subject at hand. I started the conversation by bringing up what he said to his cousin about getting laid. I had to explain to him why it was wrong and what made it disrespectful which led up to the subject of relationships. I noticed that he had In a relationship listed on his MySpace page. I asked who she was and what happened since they are no longer together. He explained that they decided it was better to just be friends. Then he told me it was supposed to be someone else but they decided to defer until school was back in session. I learned two things… Relationships in Junior High School are organized and honest and they only last while school is in session.
I asked flat out if I needed to buy him condoms and if he was sexually active to which he replied no. Phew, I am relieved. Then I asked if he had ever had sex. Double relief! He told me if he needed condoms he would ask me to buy them for him. I was like you can have sex but you can’t buy condoms? He said people would look at him funny. He said I would have to buy them because he doesn’t want diseases.
I asked him what does he say to as girl when he likes her and what advice he would give me on talking to girls. He explained that it depends on the girl and that it should be handled on a case by case basis.
Then I took him home. When I went in to get my jacket, his mother’s dead beat baby daddy was sitting in the living room unbraiding his hair so she can re-braid it. Deon walked in ahead of me and sucked his teeth. Then she asks me for money. I said no at first but it was for Lil’s laundry. As quickly as I walked in, I walked out.
